Employment Situation Summary and Wage Data for Nursing Occupations

According to the Employment Situation Summary released June 3 (U.S. BLS), employment in the Nursing and Residential Care Facilities sector in the United States rose by 5,000 in May.  However, this increase still represents about 46,000 fewer workers than this time last year (2021) for this sector of the job market. Hospitals did better and have returned to their May 2021 employment levels.

In Florida, some Assisted Living Facility providers serving Medicaid clients may see their workforce prospects improve as the Hourly Minimum Wage for Medicaid providers bumps to at least $15.00 an hour. The Agency for Health Care Administration’s August 4 Medicaid Alert (below) includes links to the associated Supplemental Wage Agreement and a FAQ.

Based on wage data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, an hourly wage of $15.00 would make a positive difference to nursing assistants working in Florida. The U.S. BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics query system (below) allows users to generate comparative wage reports across 24 metropolitan and non-metropolitan geographic areas in Florida.

Employers may also use the Consumer Price Index Inflation Calculator (below) to evaluate how wages are impacted by inflation.
